  4.                          INSTALLATION OF ZIPPER PAYROLL
  5.  
  6.    Installation of ZIPPER Payroll involves three steps.  These steps should 
  7.    be performed in the order listed below.  
  8.  
  9.    ************************************************************************** 
  10.    ZIPPER PAYROLL MUST BE RUN FROM A HARD DISK DRIVE.  IF YOUR COMPUTER DOES 
  11.       NOT HAVE A HARD DISK DRIVE, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE THIS PROGRAM. 
  12.    **************************************************************************

  14.    You should have at least two megabytes (2 MB) of space available on your 
  15.    hard disk.  After ZIPPER Payroll is installed you can reclaim some of this 
  16.    disk space (see the README.2ND file, "Reclaiming Disk Space").  The ZIPPER 
  17.    Payroll data files will continue to grow as you process payroll, so two 
  18.    megabytes should be considered a reasonable minimum.

  21.    Step 1.  CREATE A ZIPPER DIRECTORY ON YOUR HARD DISK DRIVE. 
  22.    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

  24.    You need to create a DOS directory to hold the various program and data 
  25.    files (see list below) that make up the ZIPPER Payroll program.  If you 
  26.    are unsure about how this is done, see your DOS User's Manual. 
  27.  
  28.    Example:  Start by selecting a name for this DOS directory.  We recommend
  29.    the name ZIPPER.  Assuming you want to install ZIPPER Payroll on your C
  30.    Drive, at the DOS prompt type: "MD C:\ZIPPER".  (Do not enter the quotes).
  31.    The DOS command MD (Make Directory) will create a directory named ZIPPER
  32.    on your C Disk Drive.

  35.    Step 2.  COPY ZIPPER FILES TO YOUR HARD DISK DRIVE. 
  36.    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

  38.    Insert either of the ZIPPER Payroll program diskettes (3-1/2" diskette 
  39.    users receive only one diskette) in the floppy disk drive you wish to use, 
  40.    and enter the command: 
  41.  
  42.                               COPY A:*.* C:\ZIPPER
  43.  
  44.    where "A:" represents the floppy drive you are installing from, and
  45.    "C:\ZIPPER" represents the Drive and directory (that you created in step
  46.    #1) where you want to install ZIPPER Payroll.
  47.  
  48.    After DOS has copied the files contained on the first diskette, repeat
  49.    this process for the other ZIPPER Payroll program disk.  It does not make
  50.    any difference in which order the diskettes are copied.

  54.    Step 3.  UNARCHIVE ZIPPER PROGRAM FILES. 
  55.    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

  57.    All ZIPPER Payroll program, data, and documentation files, other then the
  58.    file you are now reading, are contained in the self-extracting compressed 
  59.    files ZPACK1.EXE and ZPACK2.EXE.  These files should now be located in the 
  60.    directory you defined in Step 1.  You need to uncompress these files 
  61.    before you can use ZIPPER Payroll.  To do this you need to be in the 
  62.    ZIPPER Payroll directory.

  64.    *** [  If you obtained your copy of ZIPPER Payroll from a Bulletin Board 
  65.    Service (BBS), it is likely that the file format may be somewhat different 
  66.    than described in the proceeding paragraph.  If the files have a .ZIP or 
  67.    .ARC filename extension, then you will need a copy of an "archiving" 
  68.    (packing) program to unarchive (unpack) the files.  These programs are 
  69.    available from shareware disk vendors and BBS's.  In cases where ZIPPER 
  70.    Payroll has been uploaded directly to a BBS, it has been uploaded as a 
  71.    single file, ZIPPERnn.ZIP, where "nn" is the version number. ] ***

  73.    Assuming you have created this directory on your C Drive, first "log on"
  74.    to this drive by entering the command (no quotes) "C:". You should now be
  75.    "logged-on" to the C drive (or whatever drive you selected).  Now enter
  76.    the command (no quotes) "CD \ZIPPER" where "ZIPPER" is the directory name 
  77.    you selected in Step  1.  The DOS command CD (Change Directory) will move 
  78.    you ("log on") to the ZIPPER Payroll directory.

  80.    To unpack (decompress) ZIPPER Payroll, enter (no quotes) "ZPACK1".  When 
  81.    the unpacking process is finished, enter (no quotes) "ZPACK2".  This will 
  82.    repeat the process for the second archived file.

  85.      YOU MAY NOW ERASE THE TWO FILES ZPACK1.EXE AND ZPACK2.EXE.  THESE FILES 
  86.                ARE NO LONGER NEEDED AND ONLY TAKE UP DISK SPACE.

  89.    You should verify that you have the following program and data files.  If 
  90.    ANY of these files are missing you do not have a complete program set.  
  91.    This list of files is also contained in the disk file FILES.DOC.
